‘Critical lncident’ Dover:
Statement from @Port_of_Dover: ‘The Port of Dover can confirm that a critical incident is underway concerning 14 asylum seekers found in a tanker on board P&O’s Spirit of France. Emergency services are at the scene and are dealing with the situation in close co-operation with Port staff. Seven of the asylum seekers are receiving medical attention but none are currently considered to be in a life-threatening condition. The Port is open.’
update 1: ‘The incident is concerning 15 asylum seekers found in a tanker on board P&O’s Spirit of France. 12 casualties are non-critical and 3 casualties receiving further treatment. Two drivers of the vehicle concerned have been taken into custody. The examination of the tanker is on-going but the powder initially found in the vehicle has been confirmed as non-hazardous.’
update 2 14:30: Emergency services have now stood down and none of the asylum seekers needed to be hospitalised. P&O freight say the service should soon return to normal. Some passenger services still subject to a 60 mins delay.
